About us

We only stain wood. That is the whole company.

Hill Country Stain Co. is a locally owned Austin crew that cleans, preps, and stains cedar fences, decks, and pergolas across Travis, Williamson, and Hays counties. No installs, no painting, no gutters. One thing, done properly.

  • Locally owned, Austin TX
  • Fully insured
  • Oil-based stains, back-brushed
  • Firm price before we come out

Most fence staining in Austin is done as a side job by a fence installer, a painter, or a pressure-washing outfit. The results show it: sprayed and not back-brushed, sprayed onto wet wood, sprayed over gray fiber that was never brightened. The stain looks fine for a season and then fails from underneath.

We started this company to do the one part everybody rushes. That means low-pressure cleaning instead of blasting, a brightener on gray wood, a full 48 hours of drying before any stain goes on, an airless sprayer followed by a brush on every board, and photos in your text thread when we are done.

How a quote works without a visit

You answer six questions on the quote form: what needs staining, roughly how big, what condition it is in, when you want it done, the address, and where to text you. Add a photo or two if you have them. We measure your fence line from satellite imagery, look at the photos, and text you a firm price, usually within 1 business hour. There is no salesperson, no in-person estimate, and the number does not change on the day unless you change the job.

What we use and why

Penetrating oil-based semi-transparent stains, in the natural cedar, honey, brown, and gray tones that Austin-area HOAs approve. Oil goes into the grain instead of forming a film on top, which is why it fades rather than peels and why the next coat goes on without stripping. The color guide shows the six tones we use most; the HOA guide covers approvals.

Where we work

Austin and the suburbs listed in the footer: Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Pflugerville, Georgetown, Lakeway and Bee Cave, Dripping Springs, Kyle and Buda, Hutto, Liberty Hill, and Manor. If your address is outside those, put it in the form anyway and we will tell you within the hour whether we can get to it.

Straight talk

We are a new company and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. What we can promise is the process above on every job, a price you see before we arrive, and a fence or deck that looks right for years instead of months. Our reviews page fills in as jobs complete, and the before and after page shows the work.

Straight answers

Are you insured?

Yes, general liability. Ask and we will send the certificate with your quote.

Do you install or repair fences?

No. We swap a rotten picket so the stain has something to hold, but posts, panels, and gates are a fence company's job. We will tell you if your fence needs one before it needs us.

Do you paint?

No. Paint forms a film on cedar and peels within a couple of Texas summers. If you want a painted look, a solid-color stain gets close without the peeling, and we do apply those.

How do I reach a person?

Text or call the number at the top of the page once it is listed, or email hello@hillcountrystain.com. The quote form is fastest.
